Applium4Green: SAP Sustainability with Applium

Why the SAP Sustainability portfolio?

In order to meet complex and evolving CSR regulations and reporting requirements such as the :

  • Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive applying in Europe from fiscal year 2024 for large European and non-European companies verifying the NFRD thresholds (>500 employees and >40MEUR sales and/or @20MEUR balance sheet total) and later for other thresholds.
  • Plastic tax claimed by tax authorities in several countries bordering France: Spain, the UK, Italy and soon Germany.

SAP offers tailored solutions for managing environmental, social and governance data, GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions footprints, and the weight of plastic in products and packaging.

These solutions are part of the SAP Sustainability solution portfolio.

New SAP Sustainability features in the RISE offer for SAP S/4HANA Cloud

The RISE offering now comes in 3 packages: Base, Premium and, most recently, Premium Plus. With SAP S/4HANA Cloud RISE Premium Plus, customers can accelerate innovation, integrate artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, adapt to market changes and meet sustainability requirements.

Thanks to the inclusion of SAP Sustainability Footprint Management (SFM) and SAP Sustainability Control Tower (SCT) in RISE Premium Plus, companies can include sustainability right from the start in their processes and move forward step by step with their sustainability roadmap. Several SFM and SCT subscriptions are included in the RISE Premium Plus offer, so you can get started with an initial scope. It is also possible to subscribe directly to SAP Sustainability Footprint Management (SFM) and to SAP Sustainability Control Tower (SCT) as part of a RISE Base or RISE Premium contract.

SAP Sustainability Footprint Management (SFM) enables highly granular calculations of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on scopes 1, 2 and 3, and a carbon footprint as close to reality as possible.

With SAP Sustainability Control Tower (SCT), it is possible to combine different data sources to obtain a reliable view of their CSR data at a consolidated level according to different standards, including CSRD.

SAP Sustainability Footprint Management (SFM) and SAP Sustainability Control Tower (SCT) are based on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and integrate seamlessly with SAP S/4HANA Cloud. With deployment in the cloud, both solutions receive regular, innovation-linked updates, an essential advantage, particularly in coping with an ever-changing global set of CSR regulatory standards.

The Green Ledger

Just as the accounting ledger records the valuation of currency transactions as the company’s processes progress, the aim of the Green Ledger is to simultaneously store carbon accounting data in CO2 valuation. In this way, it will be possible to draw up financial and extra-financial performance reports based on real, auditable data: tracing data back to its source will enable us to understand values, and possibly take decisions to readjust for better indicators in the future.

The ” Big Green Book ” will thus be able to answer questions such as:

  • Which business area, cost center, profit center, segment, product group, sales division, distribution channel… emits the most greenhouse gases (GHG) per EUR of revenue?
  • Who are the company’s main carbon emitters?
  • What is the financial impact of choosing different suppliers or investing in “greener” machines or processes?
  • What would be the financial impact of a carbon tax?
  • Which cost centers and profit centers exceed their carbon budget?
