CDC Habitat – ADOMA

Who is Adoma ?

Adoma, a semi-public company and subsidiary of the CDC Habitat group, was created in 1956 by the French public authorities to accommodate migrant workers. With more than 88,000 people housed or accommodated, over 79,000 homes and almost 3,000 employees, Adoma has been able to establish itself over the past 60 years as a key player in the field of social solidarity, combining expertise in real estate and social support. Today, Adoma is France’s leading operator of very social housing.

The genesis of the project

Adoma, in connection with the public order, decided to launch a consultation in November 2022 for a version upgrade of the SAP ECC6 environments to SAP S/4 HANA, while at the same time wishing to host in a Sovereign Cloud. APPLIUM’s offer, in partnership with OVHcloud, seemed to us to be the best one.

Challenges and objectives

The project’s objective is clear: to rehost existing SAP ECC6 On-premise environments to OVHcloud and build a new SAP S/4HANA landscape on OVHcloud.

Testimonial at half-time!

We have launched a consultation for the realization of a move2cloud project of existing SAP ECC6 environments as well as the creation of a new SAP S/4HANA landscape in the cloud in 2023.

At this stage of the project, the choice of the cloud does not only concern SAP, since ADOMA has already begun the cloudification of its IS. We therefore decided to include SAP in the scope to benefit from the scalability of our SAP infrastructure. Indeed, we were facing a growing threat to our ability to scale our existing SAP infrastructure.

The transition to S/4HANA: a strategic choice motivated by technical constraints and the quest for cloud sovereignty

The decision to convert our SAP ECC6 ERP to S/4HANA only accentuated this technical constraint. The other determining factor was the limited availability of our internal IT teams to absorb the management of 2 other critical projects, the adoption of new SaaS solutions for our collaborative tools and internal messaging, in parallel with, and in addition to, their activities. To conclude on this point, we believe it is vital to continue transforming our IS in order to remain at the cutting edge technically, while maintaining our objective of being able to offer ever more services and capacity for innovation to our business users.

After an in-depth analysis of the bidders, we have selected OVHcloud for the cloud hosting and Applium for the design and implementation phases of the move. We also plan to work with Applium to manage our cloud infrastructure and SAP system. The question of choosing a cloud provider was quickly resolved. As a public sector player, we were keen to comply with the latest French government directives on data hosting, with an external cloud qualified by ANSSI as “trusted”. In fact, our CISO worked to this end, expressing his refusal of any non-sovereign cloud hosting solution. So it was without a shadow of a doubt that we opted for OVHcloud, a major player in the hosting sector and one that met our specifications. The main requirement was that OVHcloud should be able to guarantee the sovereignty of our data, and provide infrastructures certified for SAP use in the cloud. Of course, we also expected other guarantees: performance, security, scalability, and the certifications to prove it.

Choosing Applium and OVHcloud: guaranteeing our success in migrating SAP to the cloud

Having already identified OVHcloud as our hosting provider, we needed to find a partner who was familiar with the solutions offered by OVHcloud and with SAP cloud migration projects. Applium, an SAP integrator with an advanced OVHcloud partnership, was able to convince us by presenting us with the best proposal, while respecting our specifications in terms of governance, migration methodology and budget. We also wanted this partner to support us beyond the end of the project, by becoming our outsourcer for the entire SAP landscape on OVHcloud. As ADOMA’s infrastructure manager, and on a more personal level, the decision to migrate our SAP landscape to a private cloud, managed by an integrator with expertise in SAP architectures and migration projects, is not an insignificant one for ADOMA. We therefore expect a high level of service quality across all the components of our new SAP infrastructure. The new cloud architecture is based on a highly secure, redundant infrastructure. Our future SAP S/4HANA production environment will benefit from a backup solution hosted on a remote site several hundred kilometers from our main site. Taking all these parameters into account, I expect to have a certain peace of mind! Even if it’s difficult to assess and share the benefits just 3 months into the project, we can nevertheless see the benefits of having chosen the right partners to bring our projects to fruition. It’s reassuring and comfortable for us to be able to count on partners who are experts in their respective fields, and to benefit from a good understanding between internal and external players. The other immediate benefit is the greater availability of our in-house technical teams to manage the various partners, keep abreast of project developments and focus on tasks with high added value for ADOMA.
